While Soldiers' Angels was started by Patty Patton Bader, a self-described ordinary mother of two American Soldiers. Soldiers' Angels Europe was started by a Soldiers' Angel named Sandra Weiland. Sandra, a German citizen, has had contact with the US military most of her life. She grew up in the Mannheim area near Coleman barracks where her parents rented homes to military families. Her family also raised German Shephards, many of which were sent to the US for further training as Police Working Dogs.
Sandra joined Soldiers' Angels shortly after a close American friend deployed to Iraq in 2004. That experience showed her the depth of support Americans have for their soldiers, and the positive impact of that support on deployed troops.
In 2005 Sandra created Soldiers' Angels Europe with the mission to create a vehicle for Europeans to show that same support to their fighting men and women. "Our troops are out there and they need us!"
